Jean-François Féraud

Jean-François Féraud , born in 1725 with Marseilles and died in 1807 in Marseilles, is a Lexicographe French.

After studies at the Jesuit S, Jean-François Féraud integrates their order and becomes teaching.

The philosopher's stone of Jean-François Féraud was his critical Dictionnaire of the French language where the entries are carried out according to a simplified orthography. The double consonants are systematically eliminated (e.g.: litératûre, dictionary, grammar, application, different, nobody, affirmative, atention, to support, give, ocasion, bone, known… ) with addition of an accent according to the needs (e.g.: anciene, comes, enemy, to make an effort, learns… ), addition of an accent on certain vowels (e.g.: phrâse, pâsser, distort, other, cause, to find, measurement, proof, thing, to dare, still… ) and rationalization (e.g.: to recueuillir, because ).

He was member of the Académie of Marseilles.
