Jean-François Allard (bishop)

Mgr Jean-François Allard , born in 1807 in France and deceased the September 26th 1889 with Rome in Italy, was the first bishop of Durban.
Jean-François Allard entered to the Oblats of Marie-Immaculate and was ordered about 1830. In France, of 1830 to 1843, it is higher and Maître beginners of the provincial house of its kind at Longueuil.
At the same time as chaplain, he is Master of the beginners and professor of pedagogy at the Sœurs Jesus-Marie in formation at Longueuil of 1843 with 1849). Of 1849 with 1851, it is the Provincial of its community with Ottawa (1849-1851).
First bishop of the Native in Africa (1851-1889), it is elected under the title of archbishop of Taron in Mésopotamie and is crowned with Marseilles in France by Mgr Mazenod in the year 1851. He is suddenly deceased with Rome in Italy, on September 26th, 1889.
