Jean-Devaivre

Jean-Devaivre (born Jean-Justin de Vaivre on December 18th 1912 - April 27th 2004) is a Cinéaste and Résistant French. It carried out 15 feature-length films and 40 short films, he is also author of 35 original screenplays and more than 120 adaptations and doublings.

Biography

In the Years 1930, with the Art schools and the Arts and Métiers, Jean-Devaivre studies in particular the Architecture.

In 1934, at 21 years, it enters to the French Company of Cinematography like Décor ator. It goes up Boudu saved of water , of Renoir. Becomes assistant director, of Pierre Billon, Léo Joannon.

In 1939, it is mobilized as officer of cavalry, is distinguished during the Drôle from war, gains the Croix of the combatant and money Star.

Demobilized in 1940, it chooses to enter to the Continental, production company French with German capital at the origin of much of films of quality. Like 1st assistant director, it assists Maurice Tourneur, of which it finishes the Hand of the Devil with Pierre Fresnay (1942).

In parallel and with his friend the scenario writer Jean-Paul Chanois, it enters Resistance, before becoming “terrorist full-time” in the maquis of Saône-et-Loire.

He obtains the Croix of the combatant, the Médaille of war as well as the chivalric insignia of the Légion of honor, with the title of the Guerre 39-45.

Between 1945 and the end of the Years 1960, Jean-Devaivre will carry out 15 feature-length films, of which the King of Resquilleurs (1945), the Eleven hour old Lady , (1947), the Farm of the seven sins (1948), Vendetta in the Camargue (1949), the unknown factor of Montreal (1950), a whim of Caroline Chérie (1952), the Son of Caroline Chérie (1954) and Alerte in the South (1953), film of adventures whose turning was itself an great adventure, with Erich von Stroheim, kind of James Bond before the letter, which will hold four years the head of the boxoffice. Will come then and in particular Pile or Face or the inspector like the brawl , then a French in Moscow , KinoChoc ; JDV then works in Soviet Union for the development of the Kinopanorama process.

Its memories, written between 1961 and the Années 2000 are appeared in 2002 under the title Action! , with the editions Nicolas Philippe.

Jean-Devaivre thus forms part of these Réalisateur S which gives all their direction to the idea of a popular Cinéma and of great quality. It was also a man of a great courage, a resistant truth whose personality out of the commun run and the behavior, during these so dark hours, must still inspire today any man enthusiast of Liberté.
