Jean-Daniel Œhlert

Jean-Daniel Œhlert , known as Large-Pierrot the or the Large-German July 6th 1765 Ostheim - † December 5th 1814), is a soldier who illustrated himself particularly at the time of the Chouannerie in Mayenne.

Chouannerie

Born with Ostheim in the Haut-Rhin, Jean-Daniel Œhlert engages with the regiment of Alsace the August 6th 1787. Incorporated in the 5th battalion of Haut-Rhin, named captain the September 16th 1792, and after having taken share with 52 engagements, it comes in the Mayenne with a frank company to make the war with the Chouans.

Since then major in the Guard of the Consuls (13 nivôse An VIII), higher adjudant, chief of brigade (4 brumaire An IX), ordering with the island of Oléron, where the abbot Jacques Fleury saw it always limping, it took its retirement to the 29 brumaire An XII. It there still organized the company of reserve and the service of recruitment, ordered the department during the last years of the Empire, and died the December 5th 1814, " not having more ennemis" , " one of the most honest soldiers of the armée" .
