Jean-Claude Vannier , born in 1943 with Bécon-the-Heathers (Courbevoie), is a Auteur-compositeur-interprète and musical Arrangeur French.

Biography

Self-educated musician , it the rudiments from the orchestration by mugging up one “Which do I know learn? ” at the time where he is still sound engineer, in particular for Arab musicians: the influence of their music is determining in his writing of arrangements of cords. He collaborates then with Serge Gainsbourg: they compose together the mythical album Histoire of Melody Nelson (1971). Always in company of Gainsbourg, it carries out several film musics: Cannabis , Horse , Slogan . Their collaboration is completed in 1973 with the disc of Jane Birkin, Di Doo Dah , on which Vannier composes several titles only.

At the same time, one finds his name on the small pocket of a crowd of discs of French varieties, Mike Brant ( Laisse me to love you ) with Sylvie Vartan ( Aime me ), while passing by Gilbert Bécaud ( Mr. Winter ), or Dalida and Yves Duteil… It also writes for Francoise Hardy and especially Michel Jonasz to which it offers the tube Super Chick . One still owes him some albums for Claude Nougaro among which Plume of angel and several collaborations with Julien Clerc ( Garden peas plugs ), Enzo Enzo and Maurane ( Juste a little girl and On a prelude of Bach ).

For its first album as an interpreter ( Jean-Claude Vannier , 1975), him, which up to that point orchestrated magistralement the songs of the others, decides to entrust the musical direction of it to the one of its fellow-members not less talented, Michel Bernholc which will compose even the music to him of a noticed title of the disc, Juste a walker . He recorded a half-dozen since then of albums solos, in studio or public.

In 2006, it takes part in the recording of Libido , new disc of Brigitte Fontaine, and directs, for the first time in public, a reinterpretation of Histoire of Melody Nelson and the Child assassin of the flies on the scene of the Barbican Theater, in London, on October 21st 2006.
