He saunters thus in some states before finding Christin which is teaching of French with Salt Lake City. They carry out a cartoon, whom they send to Pilote . This one is published: it is the beginning of a long collaboration, to which the colourist Evelyne Tran-Breadth is added, his/her sister.

In 1967, are born Valérian and Laureline, in the history the bad dreams . The series published in Pilote is one of the first cartoon of French science fiction. Always in progress, Valérian meets a great success, and its influence on the authors of the Seventies is worth in Mézières the Grand Prix of the town of Angouleme in 1984.

At the beginning of the Years 1970, under the impulse of Claude Moliterni, it starts to give courses on the cartoon to the Université of Vincennes (Paris 8). It has as students André Juillard, Régis Loisel or Serge To tighten.

Wall, impassioned cinema, notes with beginning of the year 80 that many films ( Conan the Barbarian , Independence Day and even the Return of Jedi ) use decorations pointing out Valérian . Drawing some any sourness, he prefers to take part directly in the creative processes: Peter Fleischmann calls upon him in October 1985 to carry out the Scénarimage, of the costumes and the decorations of God rebels . Contacted by Luc Besson, it takes part of 1992 to 1994 in the creation of the decorations of the film the Fifth Element which leaves in 1997. He declares himself “filled with wonder” by the result.
