Jean-Claude Killy
Jean-Claude Killy , born the August 30th 1943 with Saint-Cloud, is a alpine skier French and is originating in Valley-in Isere.
Biography
Jean-Claude Killy belongs to the great generation of French skiers of the Années 1960, which dominated the alpine competitions under the direction of the drive Honore Bonnet, former head of the school of the High mountains of Chamonix.Jean-Claude Killy discovers the Alpine skiing with Valley-in Isere, where his/her parents settle whereas he is child.
He gains his first great international race with the giant of the Kandahar 1964. It is the beginning of a brilliant career. Its physical capacities, mental and techniques enable him to be essential in all the disciplines of the Alpine skiing: descent, giant, slalom and compound. Thus it contributes to develop the image of this sport while taking part in the improvement of average the techniques, of safety and promotion of the winter stations and while becoming member of the Alpine Executive committee of the International federation of ski (MADE) during several years. With his friend Michel Barnier, it launches the candidature of Albertville for the organization of the Olympic Games, then he will be copresident of the Steering Committee of the 16èmes Winter Olympics in 1992. It is besides him which decides to name Michel Platini to light the Olympic torch against the opinion of many people. It then chaired the co-ordinating committee of the Winter Olympics of 2006 Turin. Lastly, in 2004, he plays a decisive part in the attribution of the Championnats of the world of Alpine skiing 2009 with Valley-in Isere at the time of the Congress of MADE Miami. However, he resigns on June 30th, 2007 of his executive position of president of the directory of world of Valley of Isere in order to protesting and proposing the delays taken in the construction of the sporting center like in the alteration work of the tracks.
After the Olympic Games of Albertville, Jean-Claude Killy joined Amaury Sport Organization, company which manages the Tour de France or the Paris-Dakar. He leaves the company in 1999. Lately, it supported the candidature of Paris to accommodate the Olympic Games of 2012. But its prestige and its role in the CIO, of which he is member since 1995, are not enough to tip the scales in favor of the French capital vis-a-vis London.
It Marie in 1972 with Daniele Gaubert, celebrates actress of the Années 1960, disappeared following a cancer in 1987. A girl was born from their union.
Its career was recognized by the State French which given to him the Légion of honor in 1968. He is also member of the French Académie of the Sports.
