Jean-Claude Guillebaud is a writer Essayiste and Journaliste French known for its important reports in the world of the ideas.

It was born with Algiers in 1944. Journalist with the daily newspaper " South Ouest" , then in the World and Nouvel Observateur, it also directed Reporters without borders. He was prize winner of the Prix Albert London in 1972. He is member of the committee of sponsorship of the French Coordination for the Decade of the culture of peace and non-violence. In spring 2007, he sponsors the associative news agency " Reporters d' Espoirs" , born from a salutary reaction of the journalistic corporation, of which many members cannot about it any more of the most obscure aspects of the company of the spectacle.

The force of conviction

In 2005, Guillebaud publishes the force of conviction . This book discusses primarily two theses.

First thesis

Firstly, the human being cannot live without beliefs. The religious beliefs, policies and/or scientists lead to behaviors in the final analysis rather nearby, filled of a certain moral insurance and a certain devotion/Prosélytisme with respect to other human - and perhaps the also suffering one of a certain deafness… The analysis of the economic beliefs is particularly amusing from this point of view (if the benefits of the Libéralisme delay, it is because you did not make the required efforts; persevere, etc).

Another point that Guillebaud brings is that which the opposition of the Science and the Religion is an imposture. There are cases of Obscurantisme, but also of the cases where the scientific research was encouraged by the Catholic church, for example.

Second thesis

Secondly, the historical events of last century “vaccinated” people against a certain number of beliefs. For example, the hecatomb of 1914-1918 vaccinated the French against devotion to their fatherland; the communist mode vaccinated people against the objective of the equality; the evils of the development vaccinate people against the idolatry of science and progress (the cathedrals of science are emptied like the others…).

He argues that in this time, it is not the Religion which handles the Politique, but often the reverse. He calls in question the analysis which wants that for example, Bush and Bin Laden are two extremists who carry out a war of religion one towards the other. He also notes that the majority of the conflicts and ideologies contemporary meutrières were carried out by not-monks (of the Laïc S), even if they have sometimes used the religion, more especially as the true religious authorities were opposed there in many cases.
