Jean-Claude Forest

Jean-Claude Forest , born the September 11th 1930 with the Perreux-on-Marne and deceased the December 30th 1998 with Paris was an author of Cartoon.

Famous for his wild imagination, the elegance of his feature and the sex appeal of his heroins (Mathematical Marie, Baby Cyanide, Hypocrite and of course Barbarella, carried to the screen by Roger Vadim, with Jane Fonda in the title role), Jean-Claude Forest durably marked the history of the French-speaking cartoon, and in particular of the cartoon known as “adult”. In 1983, it received the Grand Prix of the town of Angouleme for the whole of its work.

Biography

Forest begins in O.K. in 1949. In the Fifties, he works for Caméra 34 (1951-1954), Vaillant (1951-1953), Fillette (1953-1954), Mireille (1956-1958), Suzette (1958-1959), Lisette (1962), famous of the adventures of Charlot and Bicot , of the covers of Fiction of paperbacks.

In 1962, it creates its first successful series, Barbarella , which puts in scene a pulpy heroin in an unslung science-fictional universe. Baby Cyanide (1964) then Hypocritical (1971), in the same vein, follows. After having collaborated in all the reviews of avant-garde of the Seventies ( Fluid Icy , Metal Howling , the Echo of savannas , etc), he particularly works in (TO BE FOLLOWED) , in which he creates with Jacques Tardi traditional the Ici Even then, only, jonque sight of the orchestra (1980) and Enfants it is Hydragon which passes (1982).

In 1983 it receives the Grand Prix of the town of Angouleme for the whole of its work. Of this date to its death, it creates cartoon less and less. From 1985 to 1988, it however directs the section cartoon of Okapi , and creates Leonid Beaudragon for the magazine. Its last work, It is necessary to believe in it to see it , drawn by Alain Bignon, appears in 1996.
