Jean-Claude-Marie Hake

The Vénérable Jean-Claude Marie Colin is the founder about the Maristes or “Company of Marie”.

Born with Saint-Bonnet-the-Troncy (the Rhone), in 1799, Jean-Claude Marie Colin entered to the Great Seminar of Lyon in 1810 and was ordered priest in 1816, at the same time as Marcellin Champagnat and Jean-Marie Vianney, the priest of Ars.

In 1822, it founded the order of the Maristes, whose certain fathers are of the monks not priests.

This order, distributed on all the continents, is particularly intended for the service of the young people. In 1985, the congregation counted 1871 members, including 1527 priests divided in 349 houses.

In 1824, it founded the congregation of the Marist sisters (educational, missionaries, hospital…) and in 1850 a third order.
