Jean-Charles Cazin

Jean-Charles Cazin (1840 - 1901), painter, sculptor and French ceramist, born with Samer, Pas-de-Calais and died with the Lavandou.

Its life, its work

Jean-Charles Cazin passes his childhood to Boulogne-sur-Mer, close to cliff of Équihen. He enters to Paris to the Art school of Lecoq de Boisraudan, then becomes professor of drawing at the special School of drawing of architecture directed by Trélat, of 1863 on 1868, date to which he is named preserving Museum of Turns and principal of drawing. After the war of 1870, it leaves for Great Britain and in 1874 leaves for Italy. It settles in Paris and exposes to the Living room of 1876 to 1883. Its first table on the topic of Tobie, is the Voyage of Tobie presented in 1878 (Art Institute off Chicago) but it is with at the same time exposed Ismaël as Tobie and the Angel that it obtains a medal of first class. He flees the honors and turns over food in Not-in Calais, not exposing anything of 1883 to 1888. He travels again to Italy and in Flandres. He studies the old nature and Masters and is subject to the influence of his friend Pierre Puvis de Chavannes, who comes to visit him in his retirement of Équihen. He paints the landscapes of his area and the characters familiar of the daily life. Its fabrics are sold in Paris and abroad. In 1891, it is divided between the VAr and the Pas-de-Calais and is not devoted any more from now on but to the landscape.
