Jean-Barthelemy Lany

Jean-Barthelemy Lany is a Ballet master Danse ur and French born with Paris the March 24th 1718 and died in this same city the March 29th 1786.

After having begun in 1740 with the royal Academy from music, it is engaged with Berlin at the court of Frederic II of Prussia of 1743 with 1747, where it composes in particular for Barberina. Of return to Paris in 1748, it is engaged with the Opera as ballet master until his retirement in 1768.

It also regulates the Ballet S of the court of Versailles of 1762 with 1773, then works with Turin and London. It is one of the members of the royal Académie of dance.

Noverre considers it a poor choreographer and without much imagination, except for the compositions which it regulates for itself.

Lany in particular formed Maximilien Gardel. Therese Vestris, sister of Gaëtan, was its mistress.
