Jean-Baptiste de Cavaignac

Jean-Baptiste Cavaignac , born with Gourdon, Batch, Occitanie the February 23rd 1762 and died in Brussels, the March 24th 1829, is a politician French.

Lawyer at the Parliament of Toulouse, member of the directory of the department of the Batch in 1790, Jean-Baptiste Cavaignac is elected with the Convention by the department of the Batch, in the group of the Montagnards. He votes the death of the king at the time of the Procès of Louis XVI and sits little at Convention, being especially on mission. One sends it to the Armée with the coasts of Brest, from where he protests against the arrest of the Girondins (June 2nd 1793), then to Nantes and in the Vendée, in the the Pyrenees where it is charged to raise horses for the army.

One entrusts to him purification in the departments of the Isere and of the Drome but he refuses to remain with the Armée with the Western Pyrenees. Denounced for a rape with Bayonne, he clears himself and is sent to the Armée with the Rhine-and-Moselle. He succeeds in escaping the continuations under the Convention thermidorienne. 1st meadow year III (May 21st 1795), it is with the head of the troops in charge of the protection of Convention and appears unable to prevent the irruption of the rioters in the room of the meetings. The 13 vendémiaire year IV (October 5th, 1795), it assists Paul Barras in the repression of the insurrection.

It sits little of time to the Conseil of the Five hundred, being eliminated by the drawing lot. It fills of the minor functions under the Consulat and the Empire.

Jean-Baptiste Cavaignac is exiled like regicide with the Restoration.
