Jean-Baptiste Michel Durand
Jean-Baptiste Michel Durand , born the April 19th 1749 with Paris, entered the January 11th 1769 to the royal body of artillery of the India.
Employee successively with the island of France (Mauritius) and with Ceylon, of 1770 with 1777; it made the Campagnes of the Indies of 1778 with 1784, during which it attended several seats, battles and combat on sea and accepted five wounds.
Captain the August 28th 1780, it pointed out himself with the Bataille of Goudelour, the June 13rd 1783.
Captain ordering with the 8th artillery regiment on May 1st 1786, it accepted the Croix of Saint-Louis the January 10th 1788; chief of artillery brigade (major) the January 27th 1791, lieutenant-colonel on July 1st 1792, and colonel the 14 of the same month; it returned in France at the end of year IV, after a twenty eight years stay in the India.
It made the Campagne of Germany in the year V, spent the following year to the artillery direction of the place of Lille, then with that of La Rochelle in year VIII, in charge in year X of the command of the park of the Armée with Spain, it took, in year XI, that of the Armée with the coasts of Brest.
Named member of the Legion of honor the 15 pluviôse year XIII, it obtained the cross of officer of the Order the meadow 2b of the same year. It rendered important services during the campaigns of 1805 to 1807, in Germany, Prussia and Poland, in the capacity as director of artillery of the body of the Large army. The March 19th 1808, the Emperor conferred the title of baron to him.
The colonel Durand-with Herville passed in April following to the direction of artillery of Paris and the 1st military division. Ordering artillery with Passau, in 1810, it made two new campaigns in Germany, took again in 1813 the direction of Paris, and was high with the rank of Marshal-of-camp the January 8th 1814
Louis XVIII gave him the cross of commander the September 10th 1814, and with the retirement the December 24th admitted it same year.
