Jean-Baptiste Lacoste was lawyer with Mauriac in the Département of the Cantal before the French revolution.

Under the Revolution

In 1789, he is Justice of the Peace. In 1792, it is elected appointed with the Convention by the department of the Cantal, constantly on mission it sat there little. In Alsace, it creates a revolutionary commission which was chaired by Euloge Schneider. That was worth a long captivity to him which finishes thanks to the amnistice of the 3 brumaire An IV (October 25th 1795).

After Thermidor 9, it had however made release the Etienne General of the Heather, imprisoned in Strasbourg for an alleged treason, obtaining Committee of Public Hello on Thermidor 22 (August 10th, 1794) a decree thus conceived:

“The Committee of Public Hello adopts that the Heather, above Major general, in a state of arrest, will be put at once in freedom. Signed with the register Carnot, Bréard, Barrère, Billaud-Game preserve, Prior, Lindet, Tallien, Thuriot, Treillard. For extract: Barrère, Carnot, Treillard, Echasériaux”

“Citizen, as I recognized always in you a true Republican and approved, I never lost sight of the fact you. I requested near the Committee of Public Hello your freedom; it has just granted it to me by a decree which I will send tomorrow to the Major general of Haut-Rhin.

This act of justice is still one of the benefits of the fall of the Tyrants. If you come to Paris, you will always find me been willing to return on your account a testimony similar to your good behavior and the purity of your principles. Hello and Fraternity.” Signed: J.B. Lacoste

He was named prefect.

Under the Restoration

Louis XVIII of France exiled it but rather quickly allowed him to return in France.
