Jean-Baptiste Dumonceau
Jean-Baptiste Dumonceau de Bergendal , count of Bergendal, marshal of Holland, general Belgian with the service of France, member of the second room of the Netherlands, large Officer of the Legion of Honor, large cross of the Fidelity of Bade, Large cross of the Royal order of Holland (order of the Union), Knight about St Louis etc, born in 1760 with Brussels.
The weather had been initially intended for the profession of Architecte, for which it had marked provisions, and was his first weapons in 1788 like volunteer. Its advance in this career was the reward of more shining the service; become in little time colonel of a body indicated under the name of the Canaries (because of the color of its uniform). it was announced on many occasions, in particular with the businesses of Falmagne and Mount-with Anselemme.
It was named Brigadier general after his defense of the approaches of Lille against the young person Count de Bouillé; it passed then, have quality of lieutenant-general, with the service of the Batavian République, and later was covered high distinctions by Louis Bonaparte, king de Hollande, though it had shown a great independence of opinion.
In the various situations where it was placed later on, Dumonceau was shown over all the man of its country; and to the final re-establishment, beyond peace, it came to Paris to give its resignation of the service of France, and fixed its residence in its fatherland, where it was seen surrounded of the public consideration until its last day.
With a high value Dumonceau united talents very-distinguished as tactician. He also fulfilled with skill some diplomatic and administrative functions. Its severe probity had deserved to him the nickname of general without spot, under which it was indicated by the soldiers.
It accepted the title of Count de Bergenduin on April 13rd, 1810 by Louis Napoleon. May 2nd, 1812, the Emperor Napoleon i the anoblit by giving him the title of Count de Bergendal with the establishment of majorat on the department of Ombrone (Italy).
Its descent will take thereafter as name " heap " and not " Dumonceau " .
He died in Brussels the December 29th 1821.
