Jean-Baptiste Desmarets

Jean-Baptiste François Desmarets (born in Paris in 1682, died in 1762), Marquis of Maillebois, Marshal of France in 1741.

Biography

Wire of Nicolas Desmarets, Main of the requests then Intendant of finances (1674 - 1683) and the nephew of Jean-Baptiste Colbert.

He learned art from the war under the marshal of Villars. He was distinguished with the seat from Lille, and ordered a division in Italy (1733). He subjected Corsica in less than three weeks (1739), and accepted in reward the stick of marshal in 1741.

Envoy again in Italy in 1745, to support the Infant Gift Philippe, it beat the Austrians with Bassignana. But, overpowered by higher forces, it could not keep the Milan board, and was beaten with the Bataille of Pleasure (1746).

One gave him then the government of Alsace (1748).

Anecdote

His/her son, Yves-Marie de Maillebois (1715-1791) was distinguished under his orders.
