Jean-Baptiste Andre Godin , born with Esquéhéries in 1817 and died in Own way in 1888, is a Industriel and French philanthropist, inspired by the utopian socialism and movement associationist, creator of the company of stoves Godin the cast iron (the Cheminées Godin) and Familistère of Guise.

Biography

It installs in 1846 an industry which employs in a score of years to 1500 people. Partisan of Fourier and a redistribution of the industrial richnesses to the workmen, it creates a universe around his factory (the Familistère). He supports housing by building the Social Palais (modern residences for the time), of the laundrettes and the stores of provisioning, education by building an obligatory and free school, the leisures and the instruction with the construction of a theater, a swimming pool and a library. All the actors of the company had access to the same advantages whatever their situation in the company.

Jean-Baptiste André Godin was appointed of Aisne of 1871 with 1876.

The company which it founded continues to exist today (2006). The Phalanstery one on the other hand ceased functioning as such towards 1968, although its buildings are always used at ends of dwelling, and are classified with the inheritance.
