Jean-Auguste Margueritte
Jean-Auguste Margueritte , born the January 15th 1823 with Manheulles (Meuse) and dead the September 6th 1870 with Beauraing (Belgium), is a Major general French.
Jean-Auguste Margueritte discovers the Algérie in 1831, when his/her father, gendarme, are sent to Kouba. It is there that it passes most of its life and of its military career. He learns the Arab whom he controls very young person. He engages at 14 years in the gendarmes Moors.
In 1842, Sergeant, in charge of the command of the circle of Milianais, at 20 years, on August 6th, 1843 it is named knight of the Légion of honor. It also has four quotations.
He is successively chief of the Arab office of Teniet-el-Had, lieutenant with the 2 {{E}} Spahis, then in 1855 Capitaine in load of the command of the circle of Laghouat. In 1860, it is Lieutenant colonel with the 12 {{E}} Chasseurs of France.
During the Forwarding of Mexico between 1862 and 1864, it takes the command as a second of the 2nd Regiment of Walk, composed of the 12th Hunters and the 3 {{E}} Régiment of Hunters of Africa. July 2nd, 1863 it takes the command of this last and returns to Algeria with the rank of Colonel. It is named in September 1864 colonel of the 1 {{er}} Régiment of Hunters of Africa
February 1st 1867, it is named brigadier general, ordering subdivision of Algiers.
Invited to take part in the war against Prussia in 1870, it is made Major general on September 1st but receives the same day a ball in full head with the Bataille of Sedan on the plate which separates Floing and Illy. He dies five days later with the castle of Beauraing, in Belgium.
He is the father of the writers Paul and Victor Margueritte.
