Jean-Antoine Huguet

Jean-Antoine Huguet (° March 28th 1751 Billom, † July 30th 1819 Riom) was a French politician, whose career began for the period from the Révolution and continued under the Empire. He was elected appointed with the General states in 1789. He was also mayor of Billom.

Before the revolution

He is the son of Antoine Huguet (lawyer in Parliament and baillif of Billom) and of Francoise Mignot. He becomes itself lawyer. He adheres to the Franc-maçonnerie with Clermont-Ferrand.

In February 1789, it takes an active part in the general meeting of the inhabitants of Riom. It will be inter alia charged to establish the summary of the complaints and the organization of the provincial states.

General states

It is indicated with Gaultier de Biauzat like representative of the Tiers state for the bailliage of Clermont in Auvergne.

The June 20th 1789, it will sign the Serment of the Play of palm. He will be member of the committee of the subsistence of the constituent assembled . He will found with Gaultier de Biauzat the Journal of the debates and decrees.

Following a stormy debate at a meeting gathering the deputies auvergnats and bourbonnais, it is wounded in duel by Pierre-Victor Malouet appointed third state of Riom.

The continuation of its political career

After 1791, he becomes mayor of Billom and member of the departmental council of the Puy-de-Dôme.

He was elected by 252 votes out of 451 voters with the Conseil of the Five hundred the 24 Vendémiaire An IV. He sits there between 1795 and 1799.

He adheres to the coup d'etat of Brumaire. He is named prefect Allier on March 3rd 1800, then forestry commissioner to Aix-en-Provence.

He enters the March 27th 1802 to the legislative body like representative of the Puy-de-Dôme.

He is named in June 1811 by Napoleon like advising at the imperial court of Riom.
