Jean-Alexandre de Bourjolly
Jean-Alexandre de Bourjolly , born with Saint-Dominique, the March 24th 1791, general French.
It left the pages of Louis-Napoleon Bonaparte, king of Holland, to enter the 2 of Dutch infantry, in the capacity as second lieutenant, by decree of the May 23rd 1807. This regiment, in 1808, belonged to the occupying army of Hanover. Ordering a detachment from 18 to 20 men on the coasts of the Ost-Plank, Mr. de Bourjolly announced himself by taking again to the English a ship which the downward tide had left dry; with 12 men it was made main from there. Seizing the rifle of one of its infantrymen, it killed itself the officer: eight men were killed in this small business, and nine were brought back prisoners. It was then 17 years old.
Passed with the service of France in 1810, assistance-of-camp of the marshal duke of Istrie (Bessières), the September 4th; it made the campaigns of 1810, 1811 in Spain, 1812, in Russia and 1813 in Germany. It was decorated about the Légion with honor at once with battles of Lützen. The Bessières marshal was killed at his sides at the time when it gave him an order.
Become assistance-of-camp of the marshal Soult, the May 5th 1813, it made the campaigns of 1813 and 1814 in Spain and France, and was with the battles of Toulouse; it was named major the October 31st of the same year; later, during the countryside of 1815, it was still assistance-of-camp of the Soult marshal, with the Bataille of Waterloo.
The Restauration stopped a career started under so brilliant auspices. Arrived at the rank of senior officer than the 23 years age, Mr. de Bourjolly remained in half-pay until in 1830, where it was given in activity and named major to the 8th dragons, the August 11th 1831; he became colonel of the same regiment the August 29th 1835, and of the 1e of the hunters of Africa the August 27th 1839; in June 1840, it was promoted with the rank of Brigadier.
Mr. de Bourjolly, large Officer of the Legion of Honor, Major general since the October 20th 1845, was general inspector and member of the committee of cavalry; it ordered successively 7th, 6th and the 4th military divisions.
