Jean-Adrien Draper
Jean-Adrien Mercier (August 12th 1899, Angers, Maine-et-Loire - May 15th 1995) is a poster artist and illustrator French.
Biography
Former student of the Art schools of Angers then Arts décos, Jean-Adrien Mercier begins his career with the poster of cinema and advertizing executive, before becoming artistic director of the house Cointreau.
In 1924, at the conclusion of a contest, it carries out the poster of the first exhibition of Angers. Of 1925 with 1939, it realizes more than 110 posters of cinema, working for the largest directors of the time: Jean Renoir, Abel Gance, Sacha Guitry… In parallel, it draws very many advertizing posters, in particular for Cointreau, mark in which it will collaborate of 1925 to 1965. At the end of the Years 1930, it launches out in the illustration of tales for children. In 1942, it illustrates tales for his Sylvie daughter which will appear with the Marcus editions of Nantes. In 1961, he sees himself entrusting by the Transatlantic General Company the decoration of the gaming room of the children of the France steamer then the illustration of the menus of French Line which will be diffused in the whole world. Three years after its death, the State pays homage to him by acquiring of 94 lithographic posters and ten watercolours.
