Jay C. Higginbotham is a Tromboniste of American Jazz born the May 11th 1906 has Social Circle (Georgia) and deceased the May 26th 1973 with New York.

Summary biography

From 1928 to 1931, Jay C. Higginbotham is member of the orchestra of Luis Russell. It records faces as member of this formation where one hears sometimes Louis Armstrong with the trumpet. It enregist also two titles under his own name (“J.C. Higginbotham and His Six Hicks”). He plays then in the Big band S of Fletcher Henderson, Chick Webb and Benny Carter. From 1937 to 1940, one finds it in the formation of Russell which, at the time, is the orchestra which accompanies Louis Armstrong. From 1940 to 1947, Higginbotham plays in the group of the trumpet player Red Allen. In years 50-60, it disappears gradually from the music scene, sometimes even if one can hear it with the head of his own trainings or in company of Red Allen.

Jay C. Higginbottham made, in the Thirties, of a virtuosity which preceded that the trombonists of the era Bebop. One will listen, for example, the introduction of “ One the sunny side off the street ” (11/15/1937).
