Jaunay

The Jaunay is a river of the department of the the Vendée. Affluent of the Life, this river takes its source on the commune of Venansault. Then, it crosses or becomes limiting various communes which it meets to the sea: Landeronde, Beaulieu-sous-la-Roche, Trip hammer, the Vault-Hermier, Landevieille, Chaize-Giraud, the Pivot-on-Life, Brétignolles-on-Sea, Givrand and it joined the Life with Saint-Gilles-Cross-of-Life.

Its final layout was not always that which we know today; There are two or three centuries, the Jaunay was a small river which was thrown directly at sea, with the right of its terrestrial course, towards the place of the coast known under the name of Roche Biron, in the north of Brétignolles on Mer. A historical storm filled its mouth by a new dune, flooding the back-country and leading this river to seek a new discharge system through the marshes behind of the dune cord, until the Life in which it is thrown now, in the wearing of Saint-Gilles/Croix of Life.
