  • 750 before our era - the man with the bronze weapons.
  • 200 before our era - a Celtic village of the tribe of Médiomatriques.

Gaulle Roman and franque period

  • After 52 - Roman occupation (later toponymy).

  • ? a Gallo-Roman Villa (cf the Carolingian charter gone back to 848)
  • 848 - (under Charles the Bald person a charter quotes the “villa galliniaga” (the villa of Gallinus) of which certain parts are yielded in Aumône by Fredal, wire of Osianna, brother of Otgulf and his Blitgiane wife with the Benedictine abbey of Gorze (founded in 751).

The Middle Ages

  • 1060 - Milon de Jaulny, knight, friend, Vassal relative and of the barons of Apremont (charter of the Abbey of Saint-Benoit-in-Woëvre). A first strong Château perhaps places from there (out of wood?).

  • 1206 - Hugues de Jaulny (Donation of the right of grazing ground to the Abbey of Holy-Marie-with-Wood).
Certaines quotations makes it possible to think that a first castle (a square tower?) out of stone, the fort of origin replaced.
  • 1330 - Simon, Alix and Robin de Jaulny children of Simon de Jaulny (Transaction with the Cisterciens of Saint-Benoit-in-Woëvre on Revenue S of the abbey at the village (40 pennies of Metz, corn, wine).
  • 1357 - Robin de Jaulny married Jeanne of Armoises (girl of Colard of Armoises and Marie of Chambley). He gives his third of the Alleu of Jaulny to his parents-in-law against Boucq.
Jaulny keep two thirds of the Seigneurie of Jaulny and the castle. Armoises are owners of the other third. Jaulny is - and remains a property and not a Fief (cf the act of 1357 and later writings of Thierry of Armoises in 1504).
But Jaulny are appointed Vassaux Lorraine while Armoises are faithful Feudataire S of the Count S and dukes of Bar.
  • Succession of the Masters of Jaulny in the two families between 1357 and 1457 .

    • Simon II of Jaulny - Colard of Armoises (1357-1368)
    • Simon III of Jaulny - Robert 1st of Armoises (1368-1404)
    • Ferry 1st of Jaulny - Simon 1st of Armoises (1404-1440) to see below
    • Simonin II of Jaulny - Richard II of Armoises (1440-1457)
Simon 1st of Armoises is first cousin of the famous Robert of Armoises, lord of Tichemont and Norroy, husband in 1436 of not less famous Claude NR. alias “Jehanne of the Lily, the Virgin of France” (sic) such as names textually it this dated late copy of 1598, itself disappeared, of a contract which would have been signed in November 1436 between the couple and Colard of Failly, relating to Haraucourt in particular. It is this Claude NR. whom two brothers of the Virgin of Domrémy would have recognized like their Jehanne sister, liberator of Orleans. It is one of the bases late of the thesis known as of the “distorts Jeanne d' Arc”, which takes support on the real incredulity which struck the people and the observers about the death of the Virgin, burned alive with Rouen on May 30th, 1431. (cf in particular the Chronicle of the Senior of the Saint-Thiébaut church of Metz) (see on this subject the “point of view widened” on Jeanne of Armoises).
  • 1457-1466 - Peace treaty between on the one hand Simonin II and Ferry II of Jaulny, his/her son, and of other-share Richard II of Armoises. People, the grounds and the Justice of Jaulny are shared rigorously by a compromise of arbitration in particular envisaging a revolving justice between the two Masters. (cf the arbitration in question).

Rebirth and XVIIème century

  • 1504 - vis-a-vis the daily affronts of Ferry of Jaulny, Thierry of Armoises gets rid of his share in the hands of the Duke of Lorraine Rene II for 1000 francs barrois. Jaulny keep their rights (two thirds) while the ducal officers manage the other third (cf titles of sale and mails exchanged between the parts). The Earth of Jaulny which concerned Châtellenie Lorraine of Prény passes under the administration barroise of prévôté of Lachaussée. It is probable that the major part of the current castle goes back to this time of XV-XVIes centuries. This relates to only the strong house, to distinguish from the wing added to the 18th century.

  • 1521 - Simon de Jaulny is caught some with the ducal alderman: Jehan Trey. The provost of Lachaussée makes it convene in front of the duke (cf minutes of the ducal investigation and declaration of the witnesses as of marked who finishes his life with the prémontrée abbey of Holy-Marie-with-Wood).
  • 1579 - duel strapping with the cabaret of Jaulny (statements).
  • 1585 - Ferry III of Jaulny, last lord of the name, calvinist, is exiled with Basle. It dies there in 1587 after having yielded all its goods (cf files of Lorraine and Basle).
  • 1587 - Three branches of Armoises, successors of Ferry III of Jaulny, inherit and repurchase in property the Earth of Jaulny for 2/3 and in stronghold for 1/3. The rights on Jaulny succeed ten years later in the hands of Nicolas of Armoises. The unit of the seigniory is reconstituted within the family of Armoises. It is them which convey the blood and the rights of Jaulny disappeared. They can consequently settle in thestrong one of Jaulny.
  • 1635 - Jean of Armoises confirms his rights and those of his subjects of the village (Charter of 1635 renewing that of 1555 disappeared).
  • 1624-1668 - beautiful days of Jaulny under Jean of Armoises and Dorothée d' Urre de Thessière, lords of Jaulny and Commercy (share known as “of Saarbrucken”, in remembering Damoiseau de Commercy, Robert of Saarbrucken). The epitaph of the couple, coming from the church or the old cemetery is visible with the castle. The armorial bearings of the couple appear in the room known as of the guards (kitchens) on the lintel of a monumental chimney.
  • 1668-1677 - Louis of Armoises and Marie-Claude of Haraucourt. The countess is the girl of the Amazon Chrétienne, Alberte-Bores of Ernécourt, the Lady of Saint-Baslemont and Neuville-in-Verdunois, protective of Benoite-Be worth. “It” table of Claude Deruet celebrates, today with the Lorraine Musée with Nancy, representing the Amazon Chrétienne chapeautée on a pulled up Andalusian destrier, will trônera a long time during the XVII and 18th century in the main staircase of the castle of Jaulny (various sources and papers of Armoises).

Age of Enlightenment and Revolution

  • 1677-1708 - Jean-Albert of Armoises and Barbe Moisy of Cléron of Zaffer of “Haussonville.

  • 1708-1749 - Louis-Joseph of Armoises and Marie-Therese of Beauvau.
  • 1749-1753 - Antoine-Bernard of Armoises and Anne de Beauvau. They engage the sale of Jaulny to the Count de Rosières of Euvezin.
  • 1754 - Bores-Bernarde Preudhomme of Vitrimont and Claude-Marie de Bressey interpose and preempt the Earth of Jaulny by withdrawal lignager (the countess of Bressey goes down from Armoises and it is the niece of Antoine-Bernard of Armoises).
  • 1761 - Joseph de Raigecourt- Gournay, wife Louise-Adrienne de Bressey, girl of the precedents and becomes thus lord of Jaulny (It descends itself from Armoises).
Anne-Antoine-Bernard de Raigecourt-Gournay (their son) and his wife Louise de Vincens, marchioness of Causans. The marchioness is lady's companion of Mrs Elisabeth, sister of Louis XVI with Versailles (the queen Marie-Antoinette protects the couple, bench at the court and will equip the bride richly).
  • 1791 - the Raigecourt cousins are wet in the lamentable business of the escape of the king Louis XVI, stopped with Varennes-in-Argonne. Above the lords of Jaulny emigrate and correspond in secrecy with the Tuileries (correspondence with the marquis and the marchioness of Bombelle).
  • 1792 - above the lord of Jaulny takes part in the battle of Valmy, in the Austrian camp. Returned to France with the Restoration, the ex lord of Jaulny painfully works hard to recover titles and pensions. The branch dies out with a moniale Saint-Thomas Sisters of Villeneuve in 1889.
  • 1795 - the destruction of the castle of Jaulny is ordered by the district of Pont-à-Mousson, because of the risks of collapse which reach the masonry, emptied of its contents (Convention worries about the presence of bastions and the fortress, symbol infamous of the aristocracy déchue).

the castle is sold like national good of second origin (noble) to the citizen Jean Mansuy, of Dieulouard, for the sum of 615.000 Books. It will be repurchased by the Brigadier general Jean Nicolas Curély (whose name is present on the Triumphal arch).

Recent history

  • on May 10th, 1940, the plane of the Astier Captain who flew over the village was seriously touched. To save human lives, it risked all to try to be crushed with the accesses of wood immediate rather than in Jaulny. One finds from now on in wood a monument with his homage; moreover one lane of the village its name carries.
  • Nombreuses is the dwellings which today are rebuildings of houses destroyed during the First World War.
