Jaulnay

Jaulnay is a common French of the department of Indre-et-Loire, in the area Center.

Its inhabitants is called the Jaulnaysiens, Jaulnaysiennes .

Geography

Jaulnay is a commune of 1.476 hectares on the wet grounds of the Veude. Near Richelieu (a dozen kilometers), the common offer a beautiful starting point for the discovery of the Touraine.

History

Vestiges of the Paleolithic , have attested of a human presence for more than 5.000 years. The first written mention of Jaulnay is reproduced on the Cartulaire of the Abbaye Saint-Michel of Walnut trees in the 10th century under the name of “picatvensis diocesis” , which became “Jaunaium” in 1156 and “Jausnay” in 1191. It then passed under the name of Jounay-under-Faye (at the time where Jaulnay of Faye-the-Vinous was stronghold) and finally under its current name of Jaulnay. About the 12th century, the Faye-the-Vinous city of made build the fortress of Chillou as well as ditches. The city was then ratachée with the properties of the duke of Richelieu until the Révolution.

Places and monuments

The fortress of Chillou, old fortification intended for the Faye-the-Vinous defnse of the territory of about the 12th century or 13th century, it retse aujoud' today ditches, a turret, a door strengthened and some Machicolation.

The church of Jaulnay built at the 15th century and 16th century, was dedicated to Saint Gervais and Saint Protais. It consists of a Romance frontage, a constructed Nef on which opens two vaults decorated with stained glasses, the overcome whole of an imposing bell-tower in buttress. The church belongs today to a private individual and cannot be visited.
