History
Aeroput
A first airline company was founded on June 17th, 1927, which bore the name of Aeroput (Sr Аеропут). The first international flight of this company took place in 1929, between Belgrade and Graz, in Austria. In 1937, the international lines multiplied, accompanied by an increase in the number of passengers. Under these conditions, Aeroput acquired a certain number of Lockheed L-10 Electra. The company continued its activities until the Second world war.
The creation of JAT Yugoslav Airlines
In 1946, it became obvious that, because of its missions, the aviation of war would be unable to be implied directly in the development of the civil aviation of the socialist Federal republic of Yugoslavia. So one conceived the idea to create a civil transport company. Three transport aircraft military C-47 and 3 engines Junkers Ju 52 (taken during the war) were sent in Czechoslovakia to be transformed into civil aircrafts; the transport aircraft were thus provided with seats for the tranport of the passengers. April 1st, 1947, the new company took the name of Sr Jugoslovenski AeroTransport , shortened in JAT (Sr Југословенскиаеротранспорт), then that of JAT Yugoslav Airlines and, finally, that of Jat Airways , in June 2003.In 1949, Yugoslavia had to face an international situation difficle, because the standpoint of Tito isolated it at the same time from that and Eastern bloc of the west. This insulation caused difficulties of provisioning while carburizing, as well as the cancellation of all the flights in direction of the Europe of the east. JAT, to survive, had to be folded back on its 6 internal lines. But the political bringing together of the country with the Occident made it possible the company to make an agreement with the Swiss company Swissair; a line Belgrade Zurich was inaugurated on August 24th, 1949 road. In 1950, apparatuses Douglas DC-6 B were bought for the flights long-distance carrier, as well as planes Convair 340 and Convair 440, intended for the flights of short distance. The same year 1950 saw to open many international and interior lines.
The period of the planes with réactione
In 1963, a first plane with reation, the Caravel 6-N, came to enrich the fleet by JAT and, in 1969, came to be added a McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32, the first of a series of 16 apparatuses. And, in 1974, it was the turn of a Boeing 727-200, the first of a series of nine.Flights long-distance carrier in direction of the North America, Australia and the Far East were inaugurated in 1970. In 1978, a whole of McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30 was selected to replace Boeing 707 for the flights long-distance carrier. On the other hand, the 707 remained in service until in the Années 1980, for flights charter or to be used as apparatuses of replacement. The purchase of the DC-10-30 was followed, a few years later by the acquisition of an apparatus of average capacity
