Jason Koumas
Jason Koumas is a player Welsh of Football which currently plays for Wigan Athletic in Premiership, and for the Wales. Koumas plays as an offensive medium.
Career in club
Koumas carried out its professional beginnings with Tranmere Rovers at the time of the season 1998-99, and became, during the seasons, one of the best players of the the third English division, and a hope of the Welsh national team.At the end of the season 2001-2002, West Bromwich Albion ( Baggies ), which had just been promoted in the first division, bought Koumas for 2.25 million books and the Welsh player finished the saision by being elected, thanks to his impressing goals, player of the season for the club. In spite of its efforts, Baggies were relegated in the 2nd division after one season, but Baggies, like Koumas, directly went up in Premiership the following season. Koumas did not have really its place in the team at the time of the season 2004-05, after the arrival of the trainer Bryan Robson with the club. Robson, former player emblematic with Manchester United, was not content with the attitude with Koumas, and placed the player on the list of the transfers.
The season 2005-06, Koumas was ready with Cardiff City, where it marked 13 goals in 44 matches. Considering its success, Dave Jones, trainer of the Bluebirds tried to make sign Koumas, but could not agree with West Bromwich Albion. Then Koumas, initially unwillingly, returned in West Bromwich. Finally, Koumas chose to remain to WBA and under the guidance of the new trainer Tony Mowbray, his career started again: at the time of the season 2006-07, Koumas was appointed player of the season of the 2nd division.
In July 2007, the ambitious Wigan Athletic bought Koumas for 5,3 million books (approximately 8 million Euro S).
International career
Koumas is the son of a Cypriot ship-owner, and thus could player for Wales or Cyprus. Koumas chose Wales, and made its beginnings for the Dragons in 2001 at the time of a match against the Ukraine. Koumas marked, at August 3rd, 2007, 6 goals of 22 meetings, and is one of the pillars of the current team of John Toshack.
