Jari Kurri

Jari Kurri (born on May 18th, 1960 with Helsinki, Finland) is a former player of Hockey Finnish. Jari Kurri is not only the largest Finnish player to have never to play in the National league of hockey, he is also one of largest Europeans to have to play in the league.

Career

It passed several of these years, of 1980 to 1990, evolving/moving with the wing for the Oilers d' Edmonton, where it gained five Coupes Stanley. Oilers chose Kurri at the time of the fourth round of the Repêchage of entry in the LNH 1980, with the sixty-ninth row. Kurri was already a player star with the famous club Jokerit Helsinki, but it was completely unknown in North America. In the same way, Kurri was not very hot with the idea to be taken along to America to take part in a camp of drive. It accepted but expected to set out again in Finland at the end of one year or two. It changed idea after the trainer and director-general of Oilers, Glen Sather placed it at the right wing of the young wonder Wayne Gretzky. Sather was unaware of whereas it created one of the most prolific duets of the history of the LNH.

Kurri marked 429 goals in regular season. As Oilers, Kurri was paid four seasons of 50 goals, two seasons of 60 goals and even was more allowed to join the club very sélect players to achieve the 70 goals and more in one season in 1983-84, by marking 71 times.

It would be unjust to think that the brilliance of Kurri depended only on successes of Gretzky. At its first season without Gretzky (exchanged with the Kings of Los Angeles in 1988), Kurri was appointed the player most useful to his team. During the 154 parts in regular season without Gretzky at its sides, it recorded 195 points all the same, that is to say more than one point by match.

Kurri was a pioneer. Its success in the LNH paved the way with the players of the whole world eager to make their mark in the North-American professional circuit. Kurri was established with the Temple of re-elected hockey in 2001.

Achievements

Jari Kurri was the European player a long time having accumulated the most points in the history of the LNH with a total of 601 goals, 797 assistances and: 1398 points. Jaromír Jágr passed to him in front. It also marked 106 goals in eliminatory series and 233 points. It is allowed with the temple of famous the of the International federation of hockey in 2000.
