Jargeau

Jargeau is a Commune Frenchwoman, located in the department of the Loiret and the area Center.

It is located on left bank of the the Loire, opposite the commune of Saint-Denis-in-the Hôtel, 19 km in the east of Orleans and to 119 km in the south of Paris. The town of Jargeau has a bridge on the Loire with mixed framework (324 m - RD 921) connecting it to the commune of Saint-Denis-in-the Hôtel.

The inhabitants of Jargeau are called the gergolien () S .

  • Manufacture of accessories of cycles: in 1935,2 Parisian companies Poutrait and Morin amalgamate and open a factory with Jargeau. The Poutrait-Morin factory becomes one of the leaders world of the bicycle pump in the Eighties. It is in the Nineties that the Poutrait-Morin company changes company name to become S.A. ZÉFAL.

History

Jeanne d' Arc beat there the English the June 12th 1429 (commemorative plaque on the Madeleine Door), to have released Orleans shortly after (see Bataille of Jargeau).

The news of the Massacre of the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre reaches Jargeau the August 24th, and massacres it Protestants repeats itself there.

During the Second world war, between March 1941 and December 1945, Jargeau lodged a camp of internment (with the site of the Closed College Ferbois) which counted to 1700 prisoners, the essence being gypsies or travelling entertainers and prostitutes. Contrary to the camps of Pithiviers and Beaune-the-Rolande, it was not a camp of transit but of insulation. (see Porajmos)

Tourist monuments and Places

  • the church: The Collegial church of Saint-Vrain date of the XIIe century, it saw the marriage of the girl of Louis XI.
She contains a Chaire to be preached suspended out of wrought iron, signed Perdoux, going back to 1755 and carrying the inscription: " Fact by the care of Lord I.F. Dubourg, canon cleaned, I. Juteau, P. Tondu Gas, P. Perdoux has me fait". She is equipped with a revolving staircase with wicket. The Nef of the XIe century was arched in 1578, at the same time as one built the chorus ruined by the Protestants (of the remainders of the chorus of the XIVe century, who was itself a rebuilding are still present). One can suppose, by the still visible fragments, which it was to be a question of a turning chorus with déambulatoire and radiating chapels. Perhaps the first chorus dated from the dedication of 1154. The current chorus accommodates a whole of 64 stalls in oak dating from XIVe century. In XIVe century was also rebuilt the Transept and was altered the porch of the turn-porch. In one of the vaults, a fresco of Guillonnet (1952), as well as a ceramics of Champillou (1962) glorifient Jeanne d' Arc. Guillonnet also carried out the way of cross. The baptismal font dates from the XVIIe century (massive rectangular carrying 2 tanks, one hexagonal and other square, surmounted copper lids). The canonic district extended to north by “the castle from the bishop” (some remainders of builds in the museum Oscar Roty, and the following house). In the South, until Chanterie (current House of the Loire of Loiret and Tourist bureau), with the site of the current Presbytère was the Hôtel-Dieu. True city in the city, the memory of the canonic district is preserved in the screen of the cadrastal map of today.

  • Castle of Cherelle , accommodating in particular the music school
  • metal Markets dating from the end of the XIXe century, 1884. The roof rests on 24 cast iron columns.

Gastronomy

  • the Andouille of Jargeau : worked out with 40% pigmeat 60% and of Tripe. Historically, it would seem that the andouille of Jargeau exists since the Gallo-Roman time. It was then about a method of conservation consisting in packing flesh cooked a little in a bowel. To XVe century, the bishops offered to the gergoliens an exemption on the manufacture of this andouille to thank them for having helped Jeanne d' Arc. Since, the brotherhood of the Knights of Taste-andouille of Jargeau, reactivated in 1970, maintains the tradition. The international contest of best andouille is organized each year.
