Jard

Jard is a common French, located in the department of the Charente-Maritime and the area Poitou-Charentes.

Geography

  • Small village located between Holy and Pons, to 10 km of each of the two cities, in Charente-Maritime, on a hill on the edge Is trunk road (RN 137) driving with Bordeaux.
  • the commune extends since the trunk road to the locality " Rabaine" , where formerly a mill was of which there remain some vestiges. In the south, Colombiers is a commune bordering. It is the same, in the west, of Berneuil which is separated from Jard by the trunk road leading to Bordeaux. Breuils and Courcion are hamlets of Berneuil located at the north of Jard .

Places and monuments

  • Jard has a small Romance church dedicated to " Saint-Jacques" , of the 12th century, and whose bell dates from the 18th century. It was recently restored by the municipality of the current mayor, Bernard Grenon . The beginning of this project had been undertaken by the former mayor, Guy Georgeon .
  • a mill was also present at the locality " Rabaine" , there remain some vestiges. These vestiges consist of a small restored dwelling and some remainders of still visible wood beam of share and others of the Seugne.
  • a monastery would have existed whose arch as a vestige is visible in a field of the village.
  • Site of Neolithic and Roman presence, of which vestiges of a Roman way and habitat.
  • There exists also one or of the sources of water in its marshes, with the locality " Make Roman".

Personalities related to the commune

  • Bisseuil (Eugene-Aime), politician (Jard 1833 - Asnières-sur-Seine 1920). Civil servant of the taxes with Saint-Pierre-in Oléron, he becomes the general adviser about it before being elected appointed with Saintes (1881 with 1885), then senator (1892 with 1903). Meanwhile, it succeeds in obtaining the load of general paymaster of the department. Its action will be strong for the creation of the railway line Saintes/Saint-Jean-with Angély.
