Jappeloup de Luze
Jappeloup de Luze (1975 - 1991) was a Cheval French Selle of contest of jump of obstacles pertaining to Pierre Durand.
Origin and characteristics
The father of Jappeloup is a French Trotteur name of the Tyrol II and his/her mother is a mare thorough-bred of race being called Vénérable. Specialists in the field always said that this kind of crossing would be very interesting. Jappeloup of it is the proof. But, Jappeloup did not have a descent.
Horse French Saddle, hongre and bai dark of small size (1,58 m), Jappeloup does not have the usual physique of the horses met on the grounds of international CSO. Equipped with an undisciplined and whimsical nature, it showed very great facilities in jump of obstacles.
Prize list
With its rider Pierre Durand, Jappeloup gained many titles: Champion of France in 1982, Champion of Europe in 1987, 11 gold medals in Grands Prix including five out of World cup and three in CSIO, and Olympic champion with OJ of Seoul in 1988.
In 1997, the equestrian magazine the Horse Year indicated Jappeloup as being the second most powerful horse in jump of obstacles since the 2 World war. He was elected by a vote of 37 experts of the world of the equestrian sports.
The public particularly retained the fight on the grounds of CSO between Jappeloup and its gray competitor, celebrates it Milton under the saddle of English John Whitaker.
For its retirement in 1991, a jubilee took place with the Field-of-March in Paris with a competition of jump of obstacles joining together the 25 best riders and proceeding on a ground made up of blue sand.
Anecdoctes
- Jappeloup is so small that this characteristic could have prevented it from making an international career. Indeed, when it is presented to Pierre Durand for the first time at 4 years, this one denies it, announcing it " Too much petit". It will reconsider its decision, one year later, by seeing it jumping.
- In 1984, with the Olympic Games of Los Angeles, during the test by team, the horse, then 9 years old, refuses, throws its rider with ground, and flees towards the stables after having succeeded in removing its support. After his fall, Pierre Durand was the target many criticisms.
- In 1988, with the Olympic Games of Seoul, after having gained the gold medal, this one is really for him. Indeed, Pierre Durand passes the medal to him on the breast piece to thank it.
