Japhet (of Hebrew that it widens ) is a character of the Genèse in the Bible. He is with Sem and Cham one of three wire of Noah. He is the ancestor of Japhétiques, of the people living in the north of the sea the Mediterranean in current the Europe. It seems that Japhet was the elder one of three wire, according to the Hebrew text of the Genèse 10:21, where he mentions Japhet the elder one. If it is retained that this one is the oldest son of Noah, its birth is located roughly in year 2470 before the Christian era. Japhet and his wife were among the eight human occupants of the arch: they thus survived the Déluge. In the tradition of the religions of the Book, Japhet is the ancestor of the Aryan race or Indo-European (Indo-Germanic). According to the Arab tradition, one of wire of Japhet would be also the ancestor of the Asian ones.
