The term “ Japanese maple ” (or possibly “ maple of Japan ”) is allotted to different Espèce S from maple S and has two significances:

  • In the world of horticultural industry , the term “maple Japanese” gathers the whole of the species, subspecies and Cultivar S of:

    • webbed maple ( Acer palmatum ), also called Japanese maple smoothes
  • and sometimes species such as:
even if the two last are not endemic S of Japan.
  • In the world of the botanists, “Japanese maple” is a generic term for the 23 endemic maple species of Japan and neighborhood.

However, the term “maple of Japan” must be preferentially used to indicate Acer japonicum .
