Japanese gifts

In the Japanese Culture, each one attaches a certain importance to make small presents (sugar refineries, curios, etc) with its entourage on various occasions. Certain gifts are same quasiments obligatory (Giri).

Omiyage

Omiyage (お土産) is a Japanese term meaning " literally; product of the terre". It is a typical small present of an area that one brings back to his close relations to the return of a voyage. One finds many Omiyage on all the Japanese tourist sites. To present itself in its close relations after a return from holidays the empty handeds is regarded as egoist. The fact of bringing a gift shows on the contrary that the travellers thought of their family during their stay. Because of the big number of omiyage to be brought back, the souvenir shops often sell them by sachets while containing several and it is not rare to see the travellers envisaging a whole bag to only buy these memories.

Temiyage

Temiyage is the name given to a gift which one makes with his host when one is invited to dine at his place for example.

O seibo and O chugen

In December and in June, period or the employees often receive no-claims bonus, it is current to exchange gifts between colleagues. One names respectively this type of gift O seibo and O chugen . Of a value of approximately 5000 Yen (approximately 30 euros), one generally offers food or wines or objects of decoration for the house.
