Japanese Industrial Standard

The acronym JIS ( Japanese Industrial Standard , “Japanese industrial standard”) made refers to all the Japanese industrial standards of it.

It is generally used in the expression “  JIS  coding; ” to indicate different codings from characters of the Japanese language:

  • a standard character set for Japanese, in particular:
    • JIS X 0201, the Japanese version of the ISO 646
    • JIS X 0208, character set of the type most common Kanji and containing 6,879 kanji.
  • JIS X 0202 (also known under the name ISO-2022-JP), a mechanism of coding of characters used to send data JIS through a medium of 7-bit.
In practice, the “  JIS  coding; ” usually referred to data of the type JIS X 0208 encodée with JIS X 0202.
