Japanese Communist party

The Japanese Communist party ( nihonkyōsantō 日本共産党) is a Political party Japanese. Founded the January 15th 1922, it was interdict until the end of the Second world war. During the war, this movement was the only political party to be opposed firmly to the war.

The Japanese Communist party asks for the abolition of the Capitalisme and the establishment of a society based on the Socialisme, the Démocratie and the Paix, in opposition to militarism. He wants to arrive at his goals while working inside the framework fixed by capitalism. Although being of Leninist inspiration, the party does not support the socialist revolution: it adheres indeed to the idea of a democratic revolution. He asks moreover a complete restoration of the national sovereignty of Japan, concretely asking the end of alliance with the the United States.

The Communist party opposes acquisition nuclear weapons by Japan and the revision of article 9 of the Constitution. It opposes more en-soi to empire of Japan (position which it held during years), and the statute of the Emperor accepts provided that it is only one symbol and that it does not have any capacity.

The Japanese Communist party is one of the greatest Communist party of the world not to the capacity. It counts approximately 400 ' 000 members divided in 25 ' 000 sections. Contrary to the other Communist parties of Europe or besides, he did not undergo an internal crisis following the fall of the Soviet Union, and either did not think of changing its name or its objectives.

Its electoral scores are however on the decline. After having received 11.3% of the votes in 2000, it did not obtain any more that 8.2% in 2003 and 7,3% in 2005, is the vote of approximately 5 million people. At the time of the elections of July 2007, it obtained 7.5%.

History

The Japanese Communist party was founded on July 15th 1922, becoming immediately a clandestine political organization. It was indeed put outlaw of entry by the Law of safeguarding of peace and was, for this reason, victim of persecutions of the army and the police force of Japan. It was the only political party to be opposed to the entry of Japan in the Second world war.

Legalized during the American occupation of Japan, in 1945, it is since then a legal political party taking part regularly in the elections. The party did not give an opinion during the separation of the China and the Soviet Union in the years 1960. It obtained its higher electoral scores in the years 1970.

During the recent period, the party probably could maintain its positions in party thanks to the collapse of the old man Japanese Socialist party, which was a long time the principal party of opposition to Japan, but which obtained only 5.5% of the voices in 2005. The positions of the new principal party of opposition, the Democratic party of Japan, differ only slightly from those of the democratic Liberal party with the capacity for a long time. The left voters do not have thus other choices to only vote for the Communist party.

The party moreover was helped by a recent electoral reform: incompetent to obtain a seat with the majority system, it manages on the other hand to obtain some of the seats allotted to the system proportional.

  • April 10th, 1946: 3,8% of the voices

  • April 20th, 1947: 3,7% of the voices
