Janine Niepce

Janine Niépce (born the February 12th 1921 - died the August 5th 2007) was a French photographer. Relationship distant from Nicéphore Niépce, the inventor of photography, it had been born in a family from Burgundian vine growers.

Biography

In 1944, Janine Niepce obtains a license of Histoire of art and Archéologie to the Sorbonne. At the same time, it develops films for the Résistance and takes part in the Libération of Paris like liaison officer. It is one of the first Frenchwomen to exert the journalistic profession to be press photographer. In 1946, she traverses France and thus during several years, she testifies to what disappears and to what evolves/moves in the company (the first television in 1963, fast means of transport…) with their differences in the countryside, in province, in Paris. Then as from 1963 it leaves in report to Europe and in the world: Japan, Kampuchea, India, the United States, Canada.

Vêtue as a foreign tourist, it covers the events of May 68.

Between 1970 and 1980, they are the fights of the women for the freedom of contraception, the IVG and the equality of wages which challenge it.

It is named Chevalier of Arts and the Letters in 1981.

Of 1984 with 1986, it makes reports on the researchers and the technicians for the Ministry for Research. It becomes Chevalier of the Légion of honor in 1985.

It is with the exposure Visa for the image in 2000 that one announces that Janine Niépce is the only photographer who followed during a half century the evolution of the women and their history. Its many exposures are itinerant in France, Europe and in the world.

Since 1955, Janine Niepce worked with arranges Rapho which diffused its photographs in the French and international press, near the edition and sold some of its Vintage S in America.

Janine Niépce died the August 5th 2007.
