Jan Zajíc
Jan Zajíc (July 3rd 1950 - February 25th 1969) was student a Czech which immola by fire in protest against the Normalization in Czechoslovakia. He studied in technical education, to work in the Railroads.
In 1969 it takes part in an hunger strike and a commérative ceremony of students in remembering Jan Palach near the statue of Saint Wenceslas on Vaclavske Namesti with Prague. It is probably there that it nourishes the wish to imitate Palach.
The birthday day 25 years of the seizure of power by the Communists (February 25th 1969), it goes to Prague with three other students, with the intention to prevent the praguois against standardization to come. It had on him several leaflets inviting to resist against the Soviet occupation. Around 13:30, to the level of number 39 on Vaclavske Namesti, it brings fire at its inbibés clothing of chemicals.
The secret police prohibited its burial in Prague by fears of demonstrations as those which had followed the burial of Jan Palach. It will be buried in its birthplace of Vítkov.
After the Revolution of velvet, a memorial is dedicated to Palach and Zajíc in the shape of a bronze cross in the ground, in front of the National museum of Prague.
