Jan Wong
Jan Wong (pinyin: Huáng Míngzhēn ) (1953 with Montreal -) is a Canadian Journaliste of Chinese origin . Today domiciled with Toronto, she writes for the daily newspaper Globe and Mail. Jan Wong is the girl of the Business man montréalais Bill Wong, founder of the Chinese restaurants which bear its name.
Biography
Little before the end the Cultural revolution in China, Jan Wong, which has sympathies Maoists, leaves the Université McGill in Montreal for China. It will be one of the two foreign coeds accepted with the Université of Beijing. During its stay, she denounces a student who asked him how was the life in Canada. The student disappears shortly after. Wong reports this experiment in a book, Red China Blues , written and published with his return to Canada. Disillusioned by the ideology of the Chinese Communist party (PCC), it leaves China and goes back to Montreal, where it studies the Journalisme with the Université Concordia.It becomes chroniqueuse for The Globe and Mail in Toronto in the Années 1980. At the end of the Years 1990, it holds a column entitled Lunch With Jan Wong . Its style is criticized by certain: the journalist, often aggressive, does not hesitate to confront his guests. A collection of these chronicles is published later.
Polemic
In 2006, Jan Wong creates a polemic with the Quebec. In a bearing article on the Shooting with the College Dawson to Montreal, she writes that the three shootings which have occurred in schools of this city at the time of the 17 last years are caused by the feeling of alienation tested by the immigrants or the children of immigrants in Quebec, caused according to her by the Loi 101 and the racism of the inhabitants of Quebec. The article in question appears in the edition of the September 16th 2006 of the Globe and Mail and is highly décrié, in particular by the Prime Minister for Quebec Jean Charest, which denounces the article in an open letter published in the Canadian daily newspapers the September 20th 2006. The following day, the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen To grip, denounces in his turn the article. A unanimous motion of the House of Commons requires excuses, which were to date not offered by Wong or the Globe and Mail . May 11th, 2007 the Council of Press of Quebec blames Wong, the daily newspaper The Globe and Mail and editor association Edward Greenspon. Mrs Sylvia Stead assistant editor of the Earth with announced at the time of this event, that the newspaper had announced its dissension with the opinion of the journalist.However, a preserving deputy of the area of Quebec, Daniel Petit, held meanwhile of the remarks similar to those of Mrs. Wong.
