Jan Toorop

Jan Toorop (1858 - March 3rd 1928, $the Hague) was a painter Dutch whose work fills the gap between the pictorial symbolism and the Art nouveau.

It was born with Poerowoedjo, Java, studied with Delft and Amsterdam what enabled him to develop a style based on a mixture of Javanese reasons with the Symbolisme and of the slim characters and curvilinear which precedes the Art nouveau. Its period Art nouveau is spread out 1891 with 1899. He was member of the Groupe of the XX starting from 1886.
