Jan Egeland

Diplomatic Jan Egeland (born on November 22nd, 1957 in Norway), and Politician. Old assistant general secretary of the the United Nations in load of the Humanitarian associations (OCHA) and Coordinator of the emergency helps of the UNO and current Special adviser on the questions of prevention and payment of the conflicts. It always has the row of Assistant general secretary. He is married and has two girls.

Biography

Jan Egeland was member of the Norwegian government as a Secretary of foreign affairs of 1990 and 1997. He was president of Amnesty International Norway and vice-president of the international Executive committee of Amnesty International. It is youngest ever to be elected at this Committee, at 23 years.

At the time to take the head of the OCHA (Office for the Coordination off Humanitarian Affairs), he is General secretary of the Norwegian Red Cross. Of 1999 with 2002, he is the special adviser of the General secretary of the United Nations for the Colombia.

It took an active part in several peace processes. It has Co-initiate and Co-organized the Norwegian channel between Israel and the Liberation organization of Palestine (PLO) which led to the Agreements of Oslo (Statement of Principles) of September 1993.

It was the assistant general secretary the United Nations in load of the Humanitarian associations (OCHA) and Coordinator of the emergency helps of UNO, named by Kofi Annan on June 6th, 2003 to replace the Japan board Kenzo Oshima. Post he resigned on December 12th, 2006.

It is with “a great regret and a deep gratitude” that Kofi Annan accepted her resignation. He was replaced by Sir John Holmes (the United Kingdom), named by new the General secretary, Ban Ki-moon, on January 3rd, 1997.

March 14th, 2007, Ban Ki-moon named Jan Egeland Special adviser, with row of Assistant general secretary. He from now on is attached to the Département of the Political matters. Its action will be centered on questions of prevention and payment of the conflicts. It will have to coordinate a team of reserve of skilled technicians which will be able, with a short notice, being called to assist the special correspondents charged to work for the re-establishment of peace throughout the world.
