Jan Coene

Jan Hugo Isidoor Coene is a Flemish business man, born in 1957.

Jan Coene began its career with the workshops of maintenance (BBC) in Brussels, like apprentice. Enough quickly, it evolves/moves and occupies of the administrative duties within this company. It takes part in the negotiation of several acquisitions and fusions. In 1988, BBC amalgamates with, to become Asea Brown Boveri (ABB).

In 2001, free Jan Coene ABB and assumes the direction and the chairmanship of Picanol, a famous manufacturer of textile machinery.

In 2003, it is named Chairman of the board of Belgacom, the Belgian national telephone operator, whom it led to the going public, in collaboration with the Belgian government.

2004 mark a turning, following the revelation by the press of the level of remuneration of Jan Coene within Picanol. This one was considered to be largely excessive by the press, compared with remunerations of the other Belgian big bosses but also have regard to the level of activity of the company. Moreover, the press points finger the lack of transparency having surrounded this remuneration, in particular with respect to the minority shareholders. Criticisms swell, constraining Jan Coene to be resigned of all its functions within Picanol, then of Belgacom, in October 2004.

Simultaneously with its activities of leader, Jan Coene had preserved, for its academic years in Vlerick Leuven Gent Business School of Ghent, an attraction for the formation, in particular while becoming President of the Association of the former students and while taking part in many courses of management. It was then posed readily as a spokesperson good governance of company.

After 2004, it became well in spite of him for the press of left and the trade unionists Belgian an icon of the " owner voyou". So much so that the business quickly became political: following the business " Picanol" , of the political parties defend the installation of a law of transparency, baptized " law Picanol" , aiming at obliging the companies dimensioned to communicate on remunerations of their leaders and administrators.

Jan Coene is married, it is father of two children.

It is titular of a MBA of Vlerick. According to the press, Jan Coene would be a close relation of the Flemish liberals of the VLD.

July 2007: Jan Coene repurchases Flemish company GLE (industrial automatism)
August 2007: Jan Coene is named general President-Director of Siveco Group (French editor of software of management of maintenance).
