Jan Łukasiewicz
Jan Łukasiewicz , born the December 21st 1878 with Lvov, dead the February 13rd 1956 with Dublin, is a philosophical and logician Polish.
Biographical elements
Studying in philosophy and mathematics at the University of Jean Casimir in Lvov, it obtains the title of doctor in 1902 (directed by Kazimierz Twardowski) with the congratulations of the jury, then is entitled to direct research in 1906. After having taught as “a Privatdocent”, Łukasiewicz is seen appointing extraordinary professor with Lvov in 1911. During the First World War (which reaffirmed the existence of Poland, striped chart during more than one hundred years), the University of Warsaw reopens its doors with teach in Polish, and there accommodated philosophers and logicians of Lvov, whose work, individual and collective, forms what one called thereafter École of Lvov-Warsaw.Łukasiewicz becomes Minister for education in 1919, then professor at the University of Warsaw (of 1920 with 1939), from which he is vice-chancellor (president) twice. After the Second world war, it crosses the Belgium and settles in Dublin, becoming Professor of mathematical logic in Royal Irish Academy.
