Jamie Hewlett

Jamie Hewlett is an author of Cartoon British born in England with the the United Kingdom the April 3rd 1968. It is also him which carried out the lines of low in studio, for its group Gorillaz.

Biography

1988 : Whereas it was student at the university of Northbrook, in the Sussex, in England Jamie Hewlett, created Atomtan, a fanzine of comics with other comrades: Alan Martin and Philip Jump. This fanzine draws the attention of Brett Ewins which invites Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin, when those Ci finish the university, to appear a new magazine that it launches with Steve Dillon. This magazine is baptized Deadline, it is a mixture of comic strips British, and articles musical and cultural. Jamie Hewlett and Alan Martin launch there Tank Girl, an anarchistic cartoon who tells the tribulations of a punk teenager who leads a tank and which has a kangaroo transferring for small-friend. Success is immediate and quickly Tank Girl becomes bédé of reference in Deadline. The style underground of Jamie Hewlett (he is fan of Brendan McCarthy) is popular; that leads it to work with musical groups such as the Senseless Things and Cud carrying out the small pockets of their discs.

1992 : Jamie Hewlett is an important creator in the industry of the cartoons, and one of rare to be accepted in the traditional mediums. He works with Peter Milligan on Hewligan' S Haircut for 2000 AD of number 700 to the 707. It also provided covers and pine-ups for Shade, the Changing Man, also written by Peter Milligan for cd. Comics.

1995 : Tank Girl interpreted by Lori Petty on the big screen is a commercial failure. The fans indicated that it did not find the gasoline of the original cartoon there. Jamie Hewlett is however content with film. In order to promote it, it draws a mini series of Girl Tank on a scenario of Peter Milligan for Vertigo at cd. Comics. Always implied in the British musical production, it illustrates a version in bédé of Common People of the group Pulp.

1996 : Because of the fall of the sales, the adventure of Deadline finishes. Jamie Hewlett is turned over towards publicity and the televisual design.

1997 : It takes an apartment with Damon Albarn of the group Blur after being separate of his boyfriend Jane Olliver (of the group Elastica). It is during this collocation that the idea of Gorillaz emerges, one of the first virtual groups of the world. Damon Albarn would be responsible for the music, whereas Jamie Hewlett would have the responsibility of conceive the design of the group. The members of the group are create with four hands.

2001 : The first album of Gorillaz is produced. It is a triumph for Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett.

2005 : Demon Days, the second album studio of Gorillaz has to him also an enormous success. A world tour is envisaged, it should make the good share with the drawings of Jamie Hewlett.
