Jamestown is the capital of the British Territoire of overseas of Sainte-Hélène. The city is built around a main street with the hollow of a narrow valley.
Space within the city being limited by the narrowness of the valley, the city developed with Half Tree Hollow , kind of suburbs located in top of the Jacob' S Ladder .

The city is overhung by an immense staircase, called Jacob' S Ladder (or the Ladder ) and energy of the city until in top of the Ladder Hill , a mount overhanging the city.The staircase, built in 1829 and rebuilt in 1871, account 699 steps for a 280 meters length and uneven of 183 meters, is an angle of rise of more than 45 degrees.
History
The city was founded in 1659 by the English Compagnie of the Eastern Indies.
