James Fazy

James Fazy is a Political personality Suisse born with Geneva on May 12th, 1794 and died in the Petit-Saconnex on November 6th, 1878.

Biography

Of middle-class origin, James Fazy is diverted family way of Négociant traced by his father to embrace a career of publicity agent, helped in that by a taste for the literature which his/her mother transmitted to him.

Very active in the Genevese liberal opposition as of the adoption of the constitution of 1816, he becomes the leader of the radical movement as of the beginning of the Années 1830. This movement is made of liberals wishing, as its name indicates it, a political change " radical".

In autumn 1841, within the Association of Three-March, founded a few months before by moderate liberals and radicals, it tries to reverse the government and is with two fingers that point to reach. But the moderate fringe of association and the population do not follow it until the end, and are satisfied to elect a Constituante. The latter, whose majority is won over to themoderate ones, writes a minimalist project which did not statisfait James Fazy. With the head of a political clout from now on confirmed by the results of the cantonal elections of the summer 1841, it continues to claim reforms.

A catch of weapons of the district of Saint-Gervais takes place in 1843, but it fails. On the other hand, in October 1846, Fazy arrives to its ends, helped by a too sure government of him. With the head of the crowd enlarged by the protesting S dissatisfied with the decision of the authorities not to require the dissolution of the Sonderbund, Fazy between force in the Parliament and issues its dissolution. The cantonal government gives the full powers to the authorities with the city, but James Fazy shorts-circuit this attempt by bringing together the citizens with the Place of Molard. The principles of the revolution are adopted by a crowd won over to the radical leader.

The paradox of this period was to see the Catholique S causing the fall of a government which defended a position in their favor. Because alliance radicals and catholic are only transitory.

The constitution of 1847 of James Fazy marks a turning of the Genevese history, although its image never manages to sit down definitively. Adulated by the ones, Fazy is especially haï by the conservatives, who still at that time hold several key sectors of Geneva. By carrying out a purging in the police force then to the university, and while trying to make pay to the former magistrates a very strong fine, Fazy, however in favorable position, attracts the lightnings. Several of its close relations break with him. Its character coleric, which was to him useful time so much, becomes a handicap.

After having to present the bill creating the Genevese National institute in 1853, it loses its seat of Conseiller State, which it will find only with the elections of 1855, but for 4 years only. Often candidate with the Administrative counsel of the town of Geneva, it never will however be elected there.

Shining polemist, James Fazy appears in second half of the 19th century a poor businessman. It created a bank, the International Credit , which goes bankrupt later a few years. In money worries, it obtains his partisans a gift " national" in ground to be built downtown and an academic load, both strongly disputed and scoffed by its enemies.

It tries last once to present to the Genevese government in 1864, but fails, which causes several months of disorders and the intervention of the federal army.

Shining politician, James Fazy however never had this breadth of statesman, with the image of a Jean-Jacques Rigaud, that much lends to him. Its enemies were always numerous, its abundantly criticized projects. Its reactions were never those of a political great man: blamed in 1864 in the disorders, James Fazy flees in France Swiss justice.

Its memory will be published after its death. An astonishing autobiography where James Fazy uses for itself the third nobody. It is still the object today myth.
