James Ellsworth De Kay
James Ellsworth De Kay (or DeKay or Dekay ) is a American zoologist , born the October 12th 1792 with Lisbon and dead the November 21st 1851 with Oyster Bay (New York).
His/her parents leave to settle with New York whereas it was only two years old. Orphan early, it makes his studies with the Université Yale of 1807 with 1812 but does not obtain any diploma. He studies later medicine with the Université of Edinburgh and is graduate in 1819.
He returns to the the United States of America and Marie with Janet Eckford. De Kay travels, with his/her brother-in-law, to Turkey as doctor of marine. He makes off appear the account of his voyage under the title of Sketches Turkey in 1831 and 1832 .
De Kay settles in Oyster Bay where it gives up the medical practice to be devoted to the study of the Natural history. He works for the geological of the State of New York, founded office of research in 1835, and makes appear several publications on the zoology of the State (1842 - 1849).
