James E. Gunn (1938 -) is a American astronomer .
Gunn obtains off its Ph.D. of the California Institute Technology in 1966, it joint the Université of Princeton two years later and now holds the Higgins pulpit of astronomy of this university.
The first theoretical work of Gunn helps to establish our comprehension of the formation of the Galaxie S and the properties of the intergalactic Espace. It suggested also of the tests to confirm the presence of black Matière in the galaxies and predicted the Effet Gunn-Peterson on the spectrum of the Quasar S distances.
The majority of the more recent work of Gunn concern important programs of observations. It developed the plans of one of the first uses of a numerical Camera for the observation of space.
