James Doohan is a Canadian actor born the March 3rd 1920 with Vancouver and deceased the July 20th 2005 of a Pneumonie. Approximately two years after its death, roughly 7 grams as of its ashes were sent in space, as he had asked. Ashes, among which were also those of the astronaut of Mercury Gordon Cooper like those of 200 other people, were launched by the rocket SpaceLoft XL, on April 28th 2007. The rocket briefly entered space for 4 minutes a suborbital flight before going down again on ground by parachute, ashes, as planned always inside. The remainder of its ashes were widespread towards Puget Sound in the state of Washington.
James Doohan was professor of dramatic art before launching out in the adventure of the Cinéma and the Télévision. He played of the small roles in Beyond reality , My witch beloved , the fourth dimension … then became impossible to circumvent the Scotty in the series Star Trek. He also made the first seven films of the saga Star Trek, and made an appearance in an episode of Star Trek: The new generation ( Relics , Relics ).
In the original series of Star Trek, it chooses itself the name of its character: Montgomery, its second first name, Scott, the first name of his/her paternal grandfather. It was decided that “Scotty” would be Scottish because James Doohan could imitate this accent perfectly well and well others! Besides it ensures the original voices of certain extraterrestrial creatures… It appears at the time of the second pilot ( Where the man exceeds the man / Where No man has gone before ).
